About the Director

LaVonda is a native of Greenville, South Carolina and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Johnson C. Smith University. LaVonda has a daughter named Michaela Bowman who is the joy of her life.     LaVonda has over 20 years of experience working with children in Charlotte, North Carolina and Greenville, South Carolina. Past experiences working as an After School Coordinator inspired LaVonda’s decision to become an active provider in the childcare industry.  During her early childcare ventures, she found children were entering public school without the essential tools to succeed in the most impressive years.  Early Childcare facilities were not providing the children with the basic cognitive skills needed to meet the state’s standard requirement before entering the public school system. Therefore, they were being retained in kindergarten.  Furthermore, children entering middle and high schools were being promoted with little knowledge of the concept, ‘Reading is Fundamental’, or not affluent in reading and were struggling with their educational experiences.  These findings were very disturbing to her. Therefore she acquired the necessary credentials to own and operate her own childcare facility that would assist in preparing children for primary, secondary, and post-secondary education.

Small Impressions Child Development Center opened on May 8, 2006.  The Centers mission is to educate, motivate, and accelerate children to a higher standard of learning by exposing and engaging them in age- appropriate experiences that will assist with shaping who they are and who they will become as an adult.

Since its inception, members of the community have applauded the Center for the work they have accomplished with the children that are enrolled.  Small Impressions success is contributed to LaVonda’s concept of ‘empowering the whole family’ with the tools needed to succeed in a challenging and spiraling economic and educational society.
